If your pet is an inside pet make sure you dog pet bed is washable.

A dog pet bed can become dirty quick and the life of your pet bed will depend if it can be cleaned and will it last through the washing machine. It is important to keep you dog pet bed smelling fresh in your house. Outside dog pet bed’s should be cleaned as well, so I believe that most important decision is finding a dog pet bed designed with the right material to suit your needs. Durable material will also prevent your dog from chewing on the bed or even tearing the stuffing out of the bed. Young puppies are teething and enjoy chewing everything in sight and that include their bed.

Choosing The Right Size Dog Bed For Your Pet

After finding the right material you should look for the right size and comfort for your dog. There are many different sizes for different breeds. Most dog like a bed that is not too big and is cozy. A toy poodle would not enjoy a dog pet bed that is designed for a lab. Look for the size that is perfect to your dogs breed. Next, look for a dog pet bed that is warm. If your dog has arthritis or achy joints, warm bedding is really important. If you live in a cold climate make sure your dog pet bed is warm. Some dog pet beds are designed as a cave for your dog to snuggle in for added warmth.

If you live in a warmer climate with hot summer months, you may consider a dog pet bed with a frame. These beds look like camping cots and they are designed to be low to the ground and let air circulate beneath them to keep your pet cool. They are great to keep pet odors from absorbing into your carpet. Just throw a blanket on the dog pet bed and your dog will sleep for hours. If your pet is outside this cot style bed will allow your dog to be off the ground in a cool dry place.

Some people prefer a designer dog pet bed. There are many styles and colors to choose from. You can purchase a bed that has different shapes such as a couch or a real bed with a headboard and frame. You can even get your dog’s name embroider on some dog pet beds. You will be able to pick a style that will compliment your home décor and a color that will go as well. With such a variety of dog pet beds to choose from, you are sure to find what is right for your pet. Your dog will love you for it and enjoy his or her own dog pet bed for years.

If you live in the area that is subjected to heavy snow fall and very cold temperature especially on winter season, and you have a pet, you might want to start thinking of ways to keep them warm and comfortable for the season. One of the means to keep your pet warm and comfortable during the wet season is to let them inside your house. However, if you are not comfortable in keeping your dog inside your house, there are still alternatives to keep them warm and dry during the cold season.

One way to keep your dog outside your house but still ensure he is warmed and comfortable is to set him up a bed in your garage. A nice, thick mat or bed for your dog will keep him warm even he is in your garage. Making sure that the bed or mat is elevated from the ground to make sure that the cold will not creep into the bed.  Another way is to put him in a dog house. Dog house is a great way to keep your dog outdoors and still ensures that he is comfortable and warm during winter.

Winter can create some health problems on your dog such as arthritis due to cold weather. A great investment is to put up a dog house that is sturdy and can withstand any weather. Keep in mind that it is important that the dog house should not be too spacious but also not too enclosed. Proper size of the dog house should be considered when buying or building. The exterior should be sealed against rain, snow and moist and wind. To ensure the warmth of the dog house, amenities can be added such as thicker blanket of bed. A heater can also be installed on the dog house to ensure that your dog is warmed. A well built dog house should provide a shelter for your dog at all kinds of weather. Building your dog a house will protect and give him shelter all year round.

There are a lot of means and ways to keep your dog warm and comfortable during winter or cold season. All you have to do is to explore the alternatives.

Hi, my dog had arthritis on her hips and the doctor recommended a memory foam bed, she loved it! it was soft and comfy and yet solid, she slept better and longer, make sure its thick and not thin foam, a real memory foam which probably it’s a bit expensive, I paid like $ 60 but it was worth every dollar, I even lay on the bed next to her a couple of time when I was putting her to sleep and I loved it too. good luck and hugs to your pooch.

Dog arthritis is one of the most common diseases that affect canines, especially large breed dogs (60-90 lbs). Just as human arthritis, dog arthritis tends to get worse with age

Here are 10 tips that may help your arthritic dog:

      1. Slip-free Flooring. Hardwood and tile floors are slippery and can be very difficult for dogs with arthritis to move around. Placing carpet or area rugs will help secure your dog’s footing. This can help prevent your dog from slipping and getting injured.

      2. A Soft Bed. Soft bedding can help support your dog’s bones and joints and make your pet more comfortable. This can be especially important in thin dogs in which bony prominences are likely to rub on hard surfaces. Some beds are made especially for dogs with arthritis, such as waterbeds, hammock beds, and beds with plenty of extra cushion.

      3. Ramps or Cubes. Stairs and furniture can become difficult obstacles for your aging companion. Ramps or specially designed cubes can help pets safely climb stairs, get into or out of bed or get in

and out of your vehicle. Ramps can be made of plastic or wood and are available from many pet catalogs. A new product called “Puppy Stairs” are soft modular cubes that fit together in combinations that permit pets to climb up or down from beds or sofas. These cubes are made of soft rubber, have rounded corners and washable covers.

      4. Medication. Various medications are available that can help your dog feel better. Medications include drugs such as Deramaxx®, Rimadyl® or Etogesic®. These drugs are classified as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and work to suppress inflammation and pain. Other medications such as Cosequin® can also be beneficial by providing your dog’s body with necessary nutrients for cartilage repair and function. See your veterinarian to discuss if any of these medications could benefit your dog.

      5. Peace & Quiet. As your dog ages, he may not be as tolerant or patient as he used to be. Sore joints make it difficult for your pet to enjoy rambunctious playful children. Supervise playtime and consider keeping your dog away from very young children. Even parties and holiday time can be distressing for an arthritic dog. Your dog may want to join in the festivities regardless of the discomfort. To reduce joint pain and inflammation, you may want to limit your arthritic dog’s time as the center of attention.

      6. Massage. By massaging your dog, you can increase his or her flexibility, circulation, calmness and a general sense of wellness. Professional animal massage therapists are available to provide your pet a more thorough treatment.

      7. Weight Control and Dietary Therapy. Arthritis is more of a problem in obese pets. Weight loss can be beneficial by reducing the workload on your dog’s bones and joints. In addition to basic weight loss, there are diets formulated for dogs with arthritis that may be beneficial for your dog. Diets, such as Hills® Science Diet® j/d™ and Purina® JM Joint Mobility™ have been shown to help dogs with arthritis maintain weight, reduce pain and improve mobility.

      8. Exercise. Modest daily exercise can help some dogs. Special care is needed, so it is important to first see your veterinarian, who can recommend an appropriate exercise program. Exercise can strengthen your dog’s muscles and ligaments thus reducing your dog’s injury potential and risk.

      9. Extra Time. Don’t rush a dog with arthritis. It often takes them extra time to walk, climb stairs or get in and out of the car. Support and help your arthritic dog if needed or just give your pet the extra time to get around.

      10. Grooming. Grooming should not be neglected, especially in the older dog. Arthritic dogs have a difficult time keeping themselves clean, especially in those hard to reach areas. Help your dog stay clean by trimming the hair around the rear end. Brushing will help remove mats and tangles, which can injure delicate older skin. Follow these top 10 tips, and you’ll be able to keep your arthritic dog living longer, stronger, happier and healthier.
